Meghan McCain Did Not ‘Smear’ Breitbart, So Leave Her Alone

Daily Beast columnist and MSNBC contributor Meghan McCain got the Andrew Breitbart treatment Thursday after she, well, said she couldn’t understand the appeal of Andrew Breitbart. While this certainly isn’t a favorable remark about the late conservative activist, it isn’t scathing criticism either, yet the “Dirty Sexy Politics” author received a flood of hateful tweets and comments upon making this innocuous statement. The reactions to McCain were nasty, gratuitous, malicious, and unbecoming of the GOP. As someone who veers more to the right end of the spectrum, I was disappointed by the response of Republicans, many of which undermined their own arguments by resorting to personal digs at McCain.

As far as Wikipedia pranks go, this may be among the most outrageous we’ve seen.
Rolling Stone staffer Matt Taibbi slammed late conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart today, writing that he “couldn’t be happier that [conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart is] dead.” Then, this afternoon, Taibbi’s Wikipedia page listed him as a “piece of human excrement.”

The Twitterverse and Internet exploded with grief Thursday morning over the unexpected death of conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart, who passed away suddenly “from natural causes” early this morning, according to a statement from his website, Big Government. Though many callous individuals were quick to celebrate the end of the controversial pundit’s life, many conservative big names made public statements about the sadness they felt over the loss.
