“Girls” Creator Lena Dunham: Chick-Lit Awful, “Makes Me Want To Move To The Outback”

Though some of my posts may appear otherwise, I really like HBO’s new comedy, “Girls,” which is well written and exposes a lot of my secret shames (cupcake binges, dating the worst breed of men, writing nonfiction essays at a slothful pace). So I was somewhat perplexed to see writer Lena Dunham trash chick-lit recently.

Eight years later and people are still taking digs at Sex and the City.
In Saturday’s New York Times, Lena Dunham chatted up her new HBO show, Girls. On its surface, Girls is a Brooklynite foil to Sex and the City. Whereas Sex and the City chronicled the lives of professionally established 30- and 40-something women in Manhattan, leading glamorous lives and Trying To Figure It All Outâ„¢, Girls is about 20-something women leading unglamorous lives on shoestring budgets while Trying To Figure It All Outâ„¢.
