Today Show Ratings Continue To Fall, Media Continues To Blame The Women

Curry

In the wake of Ann Curry’s departure, the Today show continues to fall in the ratings behind Good Morning America. But while one could attribute this decline in viewers to several factors, some members of the media continue to blame women involved in the show.

Daily Mail Publishes Tasteless Headline About Guthrie Taking Over For ‘Old’ Ann Curry

Lauer

It was mighty painful to watch former “Today” host Ann Curry deliver her tear-inducing goodbye message yesterday — especially alongside smug ice king Matt Lauer, who lacked the decency to give her a televised hug or demonstrate sincere compassion — but even worse to see the Daily Mail’s response to the anchor’s abrupt ousting. The day following Curry’s final broadcast, the U.K. publication posted a story with the headline, “Out with the old: Savannah Guthrie takes over Ann Curry’s co-host chair on the Today show… just a DAY after her tearful farewell.”

Bristol Palin Takes Dig At “Lamestream” “Today” Show, Despite Mom’s Co-Host Gig

Bristol Palin and son Tripp

I wrote earlier of my relief that former Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s Tuesday “Today” show guest appearance was drama-free, civil, and entertaining as opposed to a hostile, “Gladiator” esque spectacle many seemed to want. The former vice presidential candidate’s daughter, Bristol enjoyed the segment as well but couldn’t resist taking a shot at the media anyway.

Star Jones On Palin: We May Disagree, But She’s “Really Nice”

Many watched former Alaska governor Sarah Palin’s Tuesday “Today” show appearance in anticipation of drama or tension of some sort, but for the most part, there was a lot of civility, even among those who are at odds with the conservative political figure.

Matt Lauer To Palin: “Are You Reading Some Newspapers” To Prepare For “Today” Show?

Tomorrow will be a big day for former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, who is set to make use of her journalism background and co-host the “Today” show bright and early. Though an ex-sportscaster, the former vice presidential candidate surely has the jitters about the upcoming gig, and Matt Lauer’s Monday morning joke at her expense probably won’t help her feel any less nervous about her next endeavor.

“It’s just a briefcase!” cried Matt Lauer, and never have we agreed with anyone more.

In its latest “can we make this into a trend story” segment, Today devoted some time this morning to male grooming, an industry and trend that, it’s true, is growing. More men are purchasing grooming products and apparel than ever.
