Misogynists say the darndest things!

Rep. Todd Akin can breathe a sigh of relief that he’s no longer the “GOP Moron of the Day,” as Congressman Joe Walsh is the latest conservative political figure to say something offensively awful about abortion. During a Thursday evening debate, Walsh said he “absolutely” believed it’s never okay to go through with an abortion, even to save the life of the mother, as our technology is so advanced that no female has any excuse not to have the baby she’s carrying.

Here’s the most inexplicable line in a very strange Guardian story about a group of women coming together to support and defend Todd Akin.

Hey Todd Akin, how’s the last month been for you? I don’t want to make you feel weird or anything, but a lot of people want you to drop out of the Missouri Senate race. Claire McCaskill wants you to drop out, but that’s not surprising given that she’s your opponent. Paul Ryan wants you to drop out of the race, which should be something of a red flag. Mitt Romney wants you to drop out of the race, because you’re an unrepentant misogynist making things more difficult for him. You’re embarrassing many Republicans, who are now afraid of being known as members of the party of “legitimate rape.” I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that a lot of people would be pretty psyched if you decided today, which is the deadline for withdrawal from the race, to shut that whole thing down. And yet, you persevere.

It has been more than a week since Rep. Todd Akin made one of the biggest mistakes of his political career by delivering his inaccurate and insensitive “legitimate rape” comment. Naturally, people on both ends of the political spectrum became angry and have been going after the congressman since, but a new “legitimate rape” parody video seems to be the best response yet to the icky controversy.

Most people were horrified by Congressman and Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin’s comment that women rarely get pregnant from “legitimate rape.” Others, like actor and conservative activist Kirk Cameron, are kinda “meh” on the whole thing.
