Why I Don’t Envy Taylor Swift’s Career
9:30 am, November 13th | by Laura Donovan
She may have $57 million to her name, but there’s one thing about singer Taylor Swift’s glamorous life I do not envy.
“I don’t know if I have a vacation for another year,” the 22-year-old says in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “You get really good at maintaining phone relationships with people you love, because you’re just not going to get to see them all the time.”
Swift, whose new album Red sold more than one million copies during its first week on the market, reportedly lost boyfriend Conor Kennedy partially because of her intense CD promotion schedule. She goes on tour this March and will be on the road for six months, so that means no more summer lovin’ or Cape Cod adventures for young Swiftie.
All that money and no time off, let alone during the summer? Not for me! Every once in a while, I’ll pick up a copy of Us Weekly and eye roll at the photos of A-listers strolling on the beach in St. Tropez or some other impossibly beautiful and warm location. For wealthy people, celebrities sure seem to have a of downtime, but now that I know this isn’t the case for workaholic Swift, I don’t want to swap bodies with her “Freaky Friday” style anymore, especially since she also apparently used to sob uncontrollably about trolls and Internet commenters:
“What I had to learn to do, in order to maintain a general happiness in my life, was to stop reading everything. And then it gets really bad if you go through a breakup and those blogs have these polls asking, ‘Who should they date next?’ And you’re just sitting there staring at the laptop bawling.”
I’ll take my trips to California and undocumented dates over private jets and spontaneous real estate purchases.
