Teen Breast Cancer Survivor Cured Just Weeks After Her Boyfriend’s Death
4:45 pm, August 1st | by Laura Donovan
I can’t even begin to imagine being diagnosed with cancer, let alone at age 14 and shortly before the death of a significant other.
But Tennessee resident Ashley Roby, who happens to be Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s youngest ever breast cancer patient (the story just gets sadder and sadder), knows these awful circumstances too well. Yet the teen basketball player is holding up well since her February 14 bi-lateral mastectomy (Valentine’s Day, oy) and does not need any further chemotherapy or radiation. The positive news comes with a tinge of sadness, though, as her boyfriend died in his sleep less than two months ago.
Roby has faced the kind of adversity from which some people never recover, but she’s busying herself with an upcoming local 5K Run/Walk, which raises money for cancer victims. If anyone’s a fighter, it’s this girl.
