The Bachelor Franchise Adds Another Wedding To The Tally

Last night former Bachelorette Ashley Hebert married her fiancè JP Rosenbaum in a two-hour televised special on ABC. While Ashley has apparently mended fences with the franchise that terrorized her, we haven’t forgotten!

Ashley’s season of The Bachelorette was notable for two reasons: first, because it was one of the seasons of the show when it became very obvious about halfway through who Ashley was in love with (rendering the competition aspect of the show irrelevant), and because Ashley spent the other half of the season being led on by Bentley, a sociopathic single dad who said things to the camera like “I’m going to go make her cry now. I hope my hair looks okay.” That he made it on the show at all, and lasted as long as he did (with zero intervention from the production team despite his repeatedly declarations that he wasn’t interested in her) functioned as a reminder that, for all it’s high-minded talk about finding true love, The Bachelor franchise is fine with humiliating its stars for ratings.

It’s even more interesting that despite being sabotaged by the show’s producers, Hebert went on to have a successful relationship with Rosenbaum and actually ended up marrying him, which is more than can be said for recent bachelorette Emily Maynard, who was handled with kid gloves on the show but broke off her engagement with fiancè Jef Holm in November.

You can see a clip of Ashley and JP as newlyweds on The View here. What do you think — was Ashley right to forgive the show that seemed to care so little about her? Or was it worth it to mend fences (and most likely have ABC foot the bill for much of the wedding? Ahh, sweet revenge)?
