The Kardashians Are Disgustingly Good At Making Money

The Kardashians know how to make money. Huffington Post found the Kardashians to be worth about $80 million altogether, with Kim accounting for $40 million.
Doesn’t it seem, though, given all the different ways they are raking in money, that they should actually be worth more? The family has signed on for three more seasons of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, guaranteeing them $40 more million. They have their perfume and clothing lines, worth about $50 million and between $200 and $300 million respectively. And then, of course, the Kardashians are not shy about selling stories to magazines — who could forget Kim making $1.5 million off of her wedding photos. Moreover, Kim can net up to $1 million for an appearance at a party and each member of the family is paid to tweet, with Kim getting up to $25,000 for one 140-character missive. What is wrong with the universe?!!
Let’s not forget this all started with a sex tape, that also got Kim a $5 million settlement for its release without her permission/without giving her a share of the profits. And to top it all off, Robert Kardashian left his ex-wife and children around $100 million after his death in 2003.
Donna Kaufman of iVillage summed it up perfectly:
“If anything, the Kardashians are a symbol of how messed-up the celebrity economy has become. In a recession, should Kim Kardashian be able to get a six-figure income for showing up at a party? How about a modest year’s salary ($25,000) for a single 140-character tweet? The Kardashians helped create the system that rewards famous people for just being famous, and now, they’re milking it for all it’s worth. It’s hard to blame them for taking advantage of the zeitgeist. But if they want people stop saying that they’re “famous for being famous”? Maybe they should stop accepting giant wads of cash for literally doing nothing.”
