Aaron Sorkin’s New Show, “The Newsroom” A More Hostile Version Of “Anchorman”?
9:30 am, April 2nd | by Laura Donovan
If you’ve ever considered working in TV, the trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming HBO drama, “The Newsroom” will make you relieved you chose print journalism or something else entirely.
Created by the “Social Network” writer, “The Newsroom” follows trusted but volatile and verbally abusive news anchor, Will McAvoy (portrayed by Jeff Daniels, who was so much sweeter as Harry in “Dumb and Dumber”!) and his colleagues as they struggle to work with him. He pulls all the classic diva moves — hurling his BlackBerry at the cameraman, belittling a blonde student, and losing his cool seemingly without cause — and unsurprisingly upsets audience members in the process.
You can see the “Jay Leno of news anchors” in action in June, and the rest of the cast (Alison Pill, Olivia Munn, Emily Mortimer, and Sam Waterston among others) are sure to add a nice touch to the program as well. Watch the trailer below:
