This Futuristic Work Bag Is Either The Best Idea Ever Or The Silliest

A great bag holds all of your necessities, as well as your non-necessities (do you really need a mini pharmacy with you at all times?! Having that bottle of vitamin B12 does come in handy come winter, though…) While many bags claim to be perfect for the office, there’s a new product on the market that may be THE MOST FUNCTIONAL (and also the oddest) one yet.

Phorce has declared itself “the world’s first smart bag” for the fashionably aware and tech savvy world wide woman on the go. Originally a project on Kickstarter, the unisex Android/iOs-compatible messenger bag has raised $115,000 in funds, likely helped by co-founder Marijn Berk being a recipient of the Dutch “Young Entreprenuer of the Year” award. It sounds pretty awesome to have a mobile charger for everything from iPods, cameras, and laptops to smartphones — and we appreciate that it’s unisex and not some kind of “magic pink charging ladypurse” situation. We can’t help but think, though, that these products are sometimes purported to solve imaginary crises. Take, for example, the bag’s “connect” feature:

The bag comes with an Android and iOS based application that can connect a smart phone to the Phorce bag via Bluetooth. This app gauges the bag’s remaining power through an intuitive on-screen graphics display. Additionally, this feature sends a notification to the phone if the bag is left behind.

But…wouldn’t the phone probably be with the bag? Being obsessively charged? While the dearth of outlets in coffee shops and airports is a modern tragedy, we wonder if there’s a real market for something like this. What do you think? Would you buy it?
