Tig Notaro’s Faith In Louis C.K.’s New Business Model Will Be Tested Today
3:30 pm, October 5th | by Sarah Devlin
Comedian Tig Notaro recently attracted quite a bit of attention for a standup set she performed at the Largo in Los Angeles about her recent diagnosis with breast cancer. While the reviews from Largo were rapturous (Louis C.K. said “[I]n 27 years doing this, I’ve seen a handful of truly great, masterful standup sets. One was Tig Notaro last night at Largo” and Ed Helms called her set “mindblowing”) comedy fans who weren’t lucky enough to be there that night were understandably eager to hear the set for themselves. Their wish has been granted, as Tig Notaro’s new album, which includes the Largo set, is going to be released today through Louis C.K.’s website.
Vulture reports:
Last night on Conan, Tig Notaro shared her cancer prognosis — she survived the double mastectomy — and recounted how her No. 1 fan, Louis C.K., will be putting up her Live comedy audio for sale on his gangbusters website.
C.K. famously sold tickets for his latest show and standup special through his website, bypassing fees from Ticketmaster to the ticket selling company’s chagrin and to enormous gratitude from his fans. It’s pretty awesome to see C.K. using that model to support other comedians, particularly Notaro, whose profile is not nearly as high as his. Although it remains to be seen if Notaro’s album will sell as well as C.K.’s, it’s great to have an amplified platform and throw her support behind a new entertainment business model that’s interested in serving artists and fans, and keeping corporate trickery to a minimum.
