The Top 10 Best Moments For Women At The Golden Globes

Were there men at the Golden Globes? Because I certainly didn’t notice them (well except for Clooney. You can’t ignore Clooney. And Ben Affleck had a good night too). But it was truly a great night for women. From Amy Poehler and Tina Fey doing a tremendous hosting job to Jodie Foster’s amazing speech and Lena Dunham taking home two major awards, it was very much a “I am woman, hear me roar” kind of party. Here are some of the best moments
1.Tina Fey and Amy Poehler
Just amazing, and they didn't have to be too mean to do it. Loved the costume changes, as well as when they announced the show was going to start getting sloppy after they both lost out on awards. Best lines of the night:
On Kathryn Bigelow: "When it comes to torture, I trust the lady who was married for three years to James Cameron."
On Lena Dunham's numerous appearances in the buff on
Girls: "If they’re forcing you to do all that nudity, just tell us. Give us a signal … and we’ll call child services for you."
On the price of beauty: "
The Hunger Games was one of the biggest films of the year, and also what I call the six weeks it took me to get into this dress."
Nothing feels as good as this tastes:
"Ang Lee has been nominated for the
Life of Pi,' which is what I’m gonna call the six weeks after I take this dress off!"
On Anne Hathaway: “Anne Hathaway, you gave a stunning performance in
Les Miserables. I have not seen someone so totally alone and abandoned like that since you were on stage with James Franco at the Oscars.”
2.Jessica Chastain's gratitude for Kathryn Bigelow
In Jessica Chastain's acceptance speech for her work in
Zero Dark Thirty she thanked her director Kathryn Bigelow, saying "You've said that filmmaking for you is not about breaking gender roles, but when you make a film that allows your character to disobey the conventions of Hollywood, you've done more for women in cinema than you take credit for."
3.Kristin Wiig and Will Ferrell
This was definitely one of the highlights of the evening. Kristin was perfectly matched with funnyman Will Ferrell as they pretended to guess the plots of the nominated films. My favorite was their description of
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen: "When the salmon are coming out and when the bad guy comes and you're in Yemen." What's weird is that one is kind of accurate.
4.Jodie Foster's monologue
speech was amazing (and she looked incredible).
5.Lena Dunham's heartfelt speech
Funny lady Lena Dunham actually made a very heartfelt speech when she won for Best Actress in a comedy last night (though she did manage to make Tina Fey and Amy Poehler feel old). She told the audience: "The other nominees in this category are women who inspire me deeply, and have made me laugh and comforted me during the darkest moments in my life. Julia, Tina, Amy and Zooey, who respectively got me through middle school, mono, a ruptured ear drum and the acute flawed anxiety that populates my entire life. I worship them."
She added: "This award is for every woman who's felt that there wasn't a space for her. This show has made a space for me, thanks so much."
6.Hillary Clinton's hubby
One of the best moments of the night was when Bill Clinton came out to introduce the film
Lincoln. But it was even better when Amy Poehler excitedly remarked, "That was Hillary Clinton’s husband!!!”
7.Anne Hathaway's tribute to Sally Field
Anne Hathaway, though a little annoying, did make a sweet remark in her speech to Sally Field. She thanked her for being one of the first actresses to break out of type casting. Both Sally and Anne were pigeonholed in the beginning of their careers as good girls (
The Flying Nun and the princess in The Princess Diaries, respectively) who had to fight to land more complex, less girly roles.
8.Adele being awesome
We haven't seen Adele since the Grammy's, and as usual she was lovely and charming. "Honestly, I've come out for a night out with my friend Ida. We're new mums … We've been pissing ourselves laughing," she said. Jealous!
This was great, not only because I
totally called it.
10. Girls won big
Girls took home the big award of the night, winning Best Comedy Series. Not too bad for a freshmen comedy. And Lena's tribute to Chad Lowe was a-mah-zing!
11.When Tina Fey told Taylor Swift she needed some alone time
It's good advice!
