The Latest Buzz: Hot Dog Carts Are Handing Out Thousands Of Free Vibrators In NYC Today

Attention New York Shoppers: Someone’s handing out $350,000 worth of free vibrators on the sidewalk this week.

It’s a marketing scheme so obvious it’s remarkable no one thought of it before. Trojan Vibrations has commandeered two hot dog trucks (like I said, obvious) and is roaming the streets of Manhattan today and tomorrow handing out free vibrators, according to the New York Times. The carts are each stocked with 5,000 vibrators from Trojan. Yes, Trojan makes vibrators — and in this case is actually handing out two different models, the Pulse and the Tri-Phoria.

This afternoon at 4 p.m., “Pleasure Cart A” will be in Flatiron on Fifth Avenue between 23rd and 22nd streets and “Pleasure Cart B” will be in the Financial District at Pearl and Broad (and you thought blogging wasn’t service journalism?), according to the giveaway’s event page. This evening around happy hour, one of the carts will even be in the Meatpacking District, which is hilarious on several levels.

And, in case you were wondering, a cart will be stationed literally three blocks from Abrams Media’s office tomorrow at 4 p.m.. Obviously the good people of Abrams Media will restrain themselves. Obviously.

Why restrain? Aren’t those expensive? I assume they’re expensive (everything good is either expensive or bad for you).

Hah! Good point. Although leaving the office during work hours to get a free vibrator seems a little… off… somehow. Perhaps we’ll make a break for it.

I forgot to follow up — I was in the drug store today and the New York Post cover article was about this very subject and said that the sales were halted. Is that the case?
