Trump: “I used to stay at Holiday Inns all the time!”

Donald Trump, who’s birther campaign continues to outshine his bid for presidency, sat down with Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator John McCain, for a barely balanced interview published on The Daily Beast. We’d hardly call this piece unbiased journalism, but it does provide some insight into Trump’s political ambitions and personal opinions.
First, Trump importantly clarified that his bid for president has nothing to do with a desire to raise ratings for his show The Apprentice. Phew, what a relief to hear that the possible direction of our government (probably) isn’t being directed by reality television! All judgment about Trump’s political potential aside, the fact that such a thing needs to be elucidated is a little scary.
“A lot of people don’t think I’m going to run, and they think it’s because of The Apprentice. And I say, give me a break! The Apprentice has very high ratings. I don’t need this to get ratings.”
As for why he thinks questioning President Obama’s birthplace is a good use of his time and resources?
“Because I think there’s something to it. For weeks, I said to people, ‘No, he was probably born here, but I’ll check into it.’ You know a certificate of live birth is not a birth certificate and all that. I’m more and more convinced he may not have been born here.”
Ah, the places billionaires can throw their resources! Trump was quick to note, though, that he hasn’t always led a five-star lifestyle.
“I wasn’t always rich. I used to stay at Holiday Inns all the time!”
While the interview has garnered lots of web attention (Donald Trump rambling + John McCain’s daughter talking shop = goldmine), our co-workers over at Mediaite point out that blogs are quick to characterize Trump as a babbling idiot, which he clearly isn’t. Love him or hate him, the man is a self-made billionaire… with a penchant for birtherism.
