Tuesday Tussle: Will Hillary’s Health Affect Her Chances In 2016?
9:49 am, January 8th | by Sarah Devlin
Laura: So Hillary Clinton is back at work.
Sarah: Good for her, that was some scary stuff. And I am sure the media is being respectful and kind to her…Oh wait, it’s Hillary Rodham Clinton, so probably not.
Laura: Let’s not forget all the conspiracy theories about her “faking it” to avoid addressing Benghazi. God forbid she’s just sick!/
Sarah: At this point wouldn’t you think they would give up the Benghazi thing? It doesn’t seem to be catching on the way they want it to.
Laura: It’s been months (not that that means anything). She already addressed Benghazi. She’s since moved on. Why would she need to hide?
Sarah: Exactly. Do you think the people who are stoked about her maybe running in 2016 are having second thoughts?
Laura: I would hope not. I mean, everyone gets sick. She got a concussion. It could happen to anyone.
Sarah: Right, she fell because she was dehydrated, and then when they were treating her for the concussion they found the clot, so it sounds like she was pretty lucky. Can you imagine? That would scare the bejesus out of me.
Laura: Oh, me too. And it can happen to anyone — doesn’t mean she is in poor health. And, you know, she’s not 20 years old. She has to be careful.
Sarah: Yeah, that’s scary. So do you think she should run in 2016? (How gross is it that we’re even talking about this so early.)
Laura: I would love her to, but hasn’t she said she’s not interested in the presidency?
Sarah: Well, so she says. I think that is probably the proper thing to say while she is Secretary of State.
Laura: Like you said, it’s early. Maybe she will speak up about it next year.
Sarah: Truth. Do you think she should run in spite of the health issues? Or am I being limiting by raising that concern.
Laura: Well it really depends on how bad this is. If she’s really sick then she should factor her health into it.
Sarah: Yes. Not to be too reductive, but I wonder if most guys would have the same thought — “Oh, my health isn’t great, maybe I should sit this one out.” My instinct is no :)
Laura: Haha I agree.
Sarah: And should they? Why not have the attitude of “I’m going for it!”
Laura: The health concern lost John McCain a lot of supporters. People were worried he would die in office.
Sarah: Yeah, I remember a lot of “Sarah Palin would be a HEARTBEAT AWAY from the presidency” talk.
Laura: EXACTLY.
Sarah: So if Hillary does run there will probably be a big focus on her running mate, especially if she has other problems between now and then.
Laura: Yeah, it’s going to be a madhouse. Be ready! I wonder who she’d consider picking.
Sarah: Cory Booker. The internet would implode.
Laura: Haha.
Sarah: But I don’t know…She’s in such a better position politically now than she was in ’08, but she’s also older.
Laura: Totally.
Sarah: life isn’t fair
Laura: Well Hillary isn’t complaining! I think she will be fine no matter what.
Sarah: Truth! She is way stronger than I am
Laura: Me, too. She overcame years and years of criticism from liberals, conservatives, everyone, and became a really likable figure. I’m hoping this is Sarah: Me too!
