Update: Oprah Explains Why She Deleted Tweets
4:47 pm, February 13th | by Hillary Reinsberg
Earlier this morning, we noted the seemingly shady fact that Oprah had taken down a tweet in which she urged viewers to tune into the OWN channel. Now she’s explained why.
For a quick catch-up, Winfrey tweeted: “Every 1 who can please turn to OWN especially if u have a Neilsen box,” but later deleted the tweet. Many people wondered why.
Now, she tells The New York Times: “I removed the tweet at the request of Nielsen. I intended no harm and apologize for the reference.”
The Times also explains why Nielsen would have taken issue with the tweet, noting that “Nielsen measures the television viewership of a sample of roughly 25,000 households across the United States, and it works hard to ensure that the sample is not coerced to watch specific shows or channels.”
We’re just glad to see it all worked out. Except for, perhaps, the still-struggling OWN channel.
