Did Vancouver Police Refuse To Deploy Female Cops During June Riots?
12:31 pm, January 10th | by Hillary Reinsberg
Hey, remember the insane Vancouver riots over the summer? Apparently, people are ticked that not enough female police officers were sent down to deal with the chaos.
Of all the concerns and complaints we expected to hear about the riots, this one was definitely not it. As you’ll recall, the whole thing started after the Vancouver Canucks lost an important hockey game to the Boston Bruins. After the game, thousands of drunk fans went nuts.
Police, then, were dispatched. Fifty of them. But only two were female. More female police officers were available, but weren’t deployed out into the madness. And they’re upset about it. So much so that the department is investigating if there was gender bias that night.
Well, was there gender bias that night? Probably. There’s gender bias in the military, there’s gender bias in toy-making, and in boardroom business. Of course, we don’t mean to shake off the investigation. The fact that Vancouver police are concerned that perhaps not enough ladies were sent out that night is a good sign.
