Watch: Texas Woman’s Fiery Testimony Against State’s Anti-Abortion Measure, SB1

If you are a faithful reader, you know that we here at the JD — along with women’s rights activists, healthcare advocates, feminists, and other all-around great people across the U.S — have been having a long, knock-down, drag-out fight with the Texas state legislature. In case you need a reminder: Texas has been trying to pass some of the most restrictive and outrageous anti-abortion measures using the shadiest methods. In order to fight this major infringement of women’s constitutional rights, activists have been testifying before the state legislature, sharing their stories and revealing the terrible repercussions this bill will have on their lives and the lives of women across the state and border.
It took one women less than two minutes to totally (and righteously) take down Texan Republicans’ anti-choice argument. Sarah Slamen, 28, was forcibly escorted out of the Senate by state troopers just as her scathing rant was reaching its climax. Personally, our favorite part is when Sen. Jane Nelson (R-TX) accuses her of being disrespectful, and Slamen shoots back: “Excuse me, this is my government, ma’am. I will judge you.” Check out the rest of her epic testimony below:
Is it just us or is it really scary that our legislators can obstruct people’s participation in government simply because they don’t like what is being said? To see what Slamen would have said if she had been allowed to finish, check out her interview with Daily Kos. Be sure to share your support with Sarah: @Victorianprude.
