Women’s Crotch Shots… In A Water Bottle Ad?

And now, here are a series of bottled water ads that are as offensive as they are perplexing. They feature up-skirt photos of unsuspecting women.

Borrowing on a trope well-known in the mid-2000s, Us Weekly era, this latest series of Watta bottled water ads features (implied) celebrity types flashing a “crotch shot” to a throng of paparazzi as they exit their vehicles. Think TMZ with slightly more censoring:

Yikes.

Why the crotch shot? For a water ad? We could speculate endlessly. There’s the phallic aspect at play, which is as subtle as a sledgehammer. And the equally subtle implication that they women are flashing their ladybits because they’re drunk. “Let’s laugh at the drunk lady, who should have been drinking water!” appears to be the takeaway. It’s incomprehensible — and more than a little mean. Why shame women into buying your product? Why the “Drink this — or else” threat? The mind boggles.

Maybe it’s also implying she’s “wet”. Like water. Their water. So drink their water!

    Yeah, this is stupid.

I think it’s also because they misspelled  it as Watta , and know this will cater to their low info, illiterate crowd. All the ad does is make me wish that stupid bottle wasn’t blocking the view, and ‘cool water’ wasn’t blocking her face. Sexist at worse, annoying at best. EPIC FAIL for certain…

Very sexist – why did the girl agree to that?    Maybe she didn’t and they just used her pic………..FAIL, RUDE.
