I don’t know about you, but I hear the word “IT” and immediately want nothing to do with the conversation. Borrrinnngg. But the profession has a broader range than one would expect, and as illustrated by the infographic below, there are many ways a person can work in the field. Is IT for you? You never know! Though IT dudes could very well be sitting at computers as we often imagine them doing, they could also be technical writers, database specialists, networking specialists, hardware specialists, and more.

The next time you learn someone works in IT, resist the urge to yawn or raise an eyebrow and remember that their job description is actually pretty vague. Don’t assume they’re just programming all day, but even if they are, more power to them. That can’t be easy or fun, at least for us creative types.
