What We’re Looking Forward To In 2013
10:15 am, January 2nd | by Sarah Devlin
Laura: So — 2013. I honestly can’t wait! By the time this is published, it will already be 2013, and I’ll probably be nursing a minor hangover.
Sarah: Haha, same. What are you looking forward to the most in the new year?
Laura: For one, I am excited about season two of Girls, and the Oscars. I want Jennifer Lawrence to get an award for her Silver Linings Playbook performance.
Sarah: Yes! I thought she was great in it. 2012 may have been the “year of the woman,” but 2013 might be the “year of the young woman.”
Laura: That’s my hope! She was amazing. That’s the only movie I’ve seen twice in years; I think she should win. Do you think Lena Dunham’s book will be out in 2013?
Sarah: I don’t think so. Hasn’t she not even written it yet?
Laura: Who knows, the news hypes everything up.
Sarah: I think she had a really exceptionally professional-looking book proposal but no real book yet. Maybe toward the end of the year? In the meantime, it’ll be interesting to see if people like Girls this season more or less, now that she’s had a season to get feedback.
Laura: What do you think will happen?
Sarah: I think it’s going to be better, or at least better received.
Laura: Same! I think so too. What else are you excited for next year?
Sarah: I’m looking forward to the end of all this fiscal cliff talk (hopefully).
Laura: Yeah, fingers crossed. I hope Hillary recovers too.
Sarah: Yes! It sounds pretty serious.
Laura: It does.
Sarah: I would also like to see women’s issues continue to be a big deal in politics in 2013. I thought that was really refreshing in 2012.
Laura: Totally.
Sarah: I would like Rihanna to stay away from Chris Brown? Haha
Laura: Nooo, I would like everyone to shut up about it.
Sarah: And I am looking forward to seeing how much money Kim K gets for her baby’s photos.
Laura: Speaking of babies, Kate Middleton’s is due in 2013, so we can all anticipate lots of news about that.
Sarah: Ooh yes. 2013 may be the “Year Of The Celebrity Mother.” J Simps will have her second this year too.
Laura: Oh yeah! Kristen Bell is due too, and Channing Tatum’s wife.
Sarah: What else? I would like to see even more female CEOs in 2013, and more discussion of work/life balance, especially for women.
Laura: Yeah, I agree on both.
Sarah: I hope the economy gets better so that people can move away from just getting ANY job to getting one they like, slash one that allows them to set healthy boundaries.
Laura: Seriously. I feel like everyone is settling in some way, professionally.
Sarah: I would also like 2013 to be The Year That No One Holding A Political Office Said Something Really Dumb About Rape, but I doubt that’ll happen.
Laura: No more Akins. I hope everyone learned their lesson
Sarah: Haha. No one ever learns their lesson!
Laura: Ha, this is true, but I still hope there are no more rape gaffes in 2013.
Sarah: Dare to dream!
