Who Had The Worst Day At Work On Mad Men?

Every Monday, we’ll be asking the question “Who had the worst day at work on Mad Men last night?” Last night was the second episode of season 6 of the critically acclaimed drama. So, who had the worst day?
Was it Joan, who had to see the Herb, the gross Jaguar salesman she had to have an assignation with in order to land the account and make partner? No wonder she went straight into Don’s office in search of a Big Gulp of vodka.
Was it Peggy, who had to face the realization that her Don-like demeanor at work was making her staff resentful of her? It culminated in a sample of feminine hygiene powder being left on her desk along with ad copy promising to “cure overly critical bacteria.” Ugh, that workplace is in dire need of some second wave feminism. She also had to decide if she’ll cheat on her work husband Stan by stealing Heinz ketchup out from under her former firm’s nose.
Was it Megan’s maid, who bore the brunt of Megan’s increasing frustration with the tension between being Mrs. Draper and a soap opera star, which culminated in her admission that she had a miscarriage? Don was surprised and sad that she didn’t tell him, but neither seemed to be honest with each other or very happy when they agreed they should talk about whether or not to have children soon.
Was it Don, who had to placate his mistress Silvia, who was feeling increasingly uncomfortable with her proximity to his wife (especially when she confided in her about the miscarriage)? After illness on Megan’s part and a medical emergency on Silvia’s husband’s forced them both to cancel dinner plans, she and Don had a tense meal that ended with the two of them entangled in her maid’s room. Her obvious discomfort can’t stand up to the attraction between them. This bodes well! Don also had to contend with gross Herb’s desire to divert funds from Jaguar’s national campaign to do local radio spots, which he torpedoed by being too enthusiastic in a meeting about the appeal to “the common man,” an angle he knew the Jaguar execs would hate. It was a small way to avenge Joan, but a satisfying one.
None of these days were great, but I have to give this one to Pete. Pete, who thought he was home free to cheat in his new Manhattan apartment, screwed up by inviting one of the wives from the ‘burbs to the city to get tickets to “Hair.” After they slept together, though, Pete found himself with a problem that might be new to him – that of someone liking him TOO much. After she showed up at his place with a bloody nose from her husband the jig was up, and Trudy, after nicely taking care of her and putting her up in a hotel, put her foot down. I can’t be the only person who fist pumped when she told him if he came within 50 miles of the house she’d destroy him, right? For all his bravado, Pete seems a little shaken at the idea of losing such a supportive partner. I’m going to give this one to him. …Congratulations?
