The Winklevi Can’t Sell Facebook — So They’ll Sell You A Pistachio

If you thought the Winklevoss twins were in good company when they were suing Mark Zuckerberg, they’re now in the company of…Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom, as well as some Angry Birds. And it’s all because of pistachios. Sufficiently confused yet?
The Winklevi, as they’re affectionately called, are the stars of a big new pistachio advertising campaign. In one of the campaign’s ads, the two brothers, who once claimed Facebook was their idea, sit, in suits (of course), and well…crack a pistachio. It’s nothing too exciting, but the whole country’s about to see it.
Paramount Farms, the company that produces the advertised pistachios, is spending $30 million on the campaign, which features a number of celebrities — among them are Lamar and Chloe, as well as the “Angry Birds” of the popular iPhone app. We meant it when we said the whole country was going to see them — the ads will run during the Dancing With the Stars premiere, the Emmys and The X Factor.
We have to give the Winklevi some credit for finally taking a step back and lampooning themselves a little. In the ad, they poke fun at the whole lawsuit. By tomorrow, we expect Mark Zuckerberg will have revolutionized the way we think about peanuts and cashews.
