Weirdest Award Ever: Car Parking Champion

Because you should never underestimate the value of being able to squeeze a large vehicle into a tiny space.
A 45-year-old German woman named Sabine Langer beat four men and three other women at the five stage German Car Parking Contest, finishing with the title of “German car parking champion” and a trip to see the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix. So how does one go about achieving this awesome accolade? According to Germany’s English publication, The Local, it’s no easy feat:
The tasks included squeezing a nearly nine-metre-long limousine into a parking bay, blind parking and also mastering the horizontal gear shift famously used in a Citroen 2CV, as well as parking a rickety old three-wheeler. But no space was too small and no car too tricky for Langer, who said on Monday that she put it all down to practise.
Luckily, Langer is used to this kind of thing because of her job:
“As an industrial clerk I drive a lot and often have to park in tiny bays, which I see as a challenge. There are men who say that a woman winning the parking championships would not be possible.”
Practice makes perfect, and parking is no exception, Langer said:
“Just try it out, and when a gap is too small, pull out.”
That’s what she said.
