In Case You Were Unaware, ‘Joking’ About Rape Is Never, Ever Okay

It’s no fun to have broken or injured bones, but IgniteMyThoughts blogger Kelsey, who hurt her hand after punching a street harasser who found it okay to joke about raping a random passerby, does not regret socking the creepshow. We hope she makes a full recovery, but are glad she reminded the dude that it should be illegal to talk about a woman that way.
In a new blog post featuring her wounded body part, Kelsey responds to the man whom she overheard insulting a woman who ignored his advances. He looked over at his buddy and said, “F-cking c-nt, I’d take her into the back alley and show her what I’m made of. She won’t even see it coming.” After assaulting the violent man, Kelsey had this online message for him:
“I hope your mother/girlfriend/sister/friends/everyone asks what happened to your nose. I hope you have to explain that you thought it’d be funny to joke with your friend about raping the drunk girl across the street. I bet you didn’t think that the girl who was walking in front of you would turn around and punch you in the face. You’re a filthy piece of sh-t and I don’t regret this at all.”
I’m proud of her for taking a stand against street harassment and sexually violent language, even though I wouldn’t recommend whacking a stranger to make a point. That said, the comments Kelsey has received in the aftermath of her viral post are quite telling of the issue at hand:
“You deserve to get raped.”
“I hope your hand never works right again and is in constant pain.”
” You need to kill yourself.”
” That guy should’ve punched you back so hard your jaw shattered.”
“I hope you get brutally gang-raped.”
“’F-cking c-nt, I’d take her into the back alley and show her what I’m made of. She won’t even see it coming,’ Doesn’t even sound like a rape threat, he’s saying he would appreciate having sex with her and showing her he’s a good fuck. Not all sex is rape”
Glad to learn the Internet recognizes rape is not a joke.
