Worst Boss Ever Asks Busty Employee To ‘Tape Down’ Her Breasts, Fires Her

If you have a voluptuous figure, don’t bother applying for a job at lingerie maker Native Intimates, which could very well oust you simply because you were born with curves.
That’s the tragic fate of Lauren Odes, a former data entry worker at the company who claims to have been canned for her… cans. Or, as her Orthodox Jewish bosses allegedly put it, her “breasts were too large.”
“When I was first told that I was too hot and that my breasts were too large, I was shocked,” the 29-year-old woman told the New York Daily News. “I thought that I was dressed appropriately every day for my job as a production assistant.”
Odes had showed up to work that day in a dress, so she agreed to wear black jeggings, rain boots, and a gray shirt the following day. Sounds fine to us, but the second outfit was still enough for Odes’s female supervisor to flip out and advise,” Lauren, try taping down your breasts to make them appear smaller.” Odes clocked in sporting another dress the next day, but was scolded for her visible bra straps. That’s when she was given an ultimatum: to go shopping across the street for “a sweater that comes to your ankles as an outfit” or put on a bright red bathrobe with a black guitar symbol the manager had taken off the rack.
Turns out it was a lose-lose situation. When she picked the robe, colleagues laughed at her, so she left the building in tears to buy a more suitable ensemble. While she was out, she was fired.
Odes says she’s aware of the strict standards Orthodox Jewish folks uphold, but that the way she was treated was unacceptable:
“I understand there are Orthodox Jewish men who may have their views on how a woman should dress and how much she should be covered. But I am Jewish as well and don’t feel any employer has the right to impose their religious beliefs on me.”
Of course, if that is, in fact, what happened, nothing excuses harassing a woman about her body type — not even the religion of the business higher-ups.
