Study Tells Women To Talk About Sports Or Don’t Talk At All

It’s a fool’s errand to seek nuanced advice on inter-gender relations from a laundry detergent company. But when we heard Dr. Beckmann laundry detergent had sponsored a study that showed “the thing women do that annoys men the most,” we were awfully intrigued.

What’s our most annoying habit, according to the guys? “Women saying ‘I’m fine,’ when they’re clearly not.” Oh, sure. Fine. FINE.

Here’s the logical conclusion a person might come to, based on this evidence: Men want us to open up more and talk about our emotions, rather than just saying we’re “fine.” But that logical conclusion would be dead wrong! People are not logical and neither is this study!

The study claims that, nope, men do not want to women to talk about their emotions. The study’s lead psychologist, Al Bundy Corinne Sweet, noted that the other annoying thing we do, according to men, is “talk too much.” Fine.

Sweet explained, “It’s just that men think women talk more. That’s because there is a mismatch in what the sexes talk about.” Women, according to the study, like to talk about “relationships and emotions.” And this bothers men because they do not want to talk about those things. Men, Sweet said, want to talk about sports. I’m sorry, but what? Men are upset we don’t tell them how we’re feeling (fine!) and then get annoyed when we talk about how we’re feeling. I give up.

Luckily, Sweet has a solution: Stop talking to men.

“It’s the minutiae of all that which men find excruciating. They’re not interested. They’re more goal-orientated. I’d suggest women talk to their friends at length and fulfill their needs that way then just give men the briefer version.”

And just like that, a laundry detergent company delegitimized the basis of heterosexual partnerships forever.

Let’s unpack what this saying here for a second: Women shouldn’t talk to men about their emotions because men (ALL MEN EVERYWHERE) don’t care. All men are more goal-oriented. Women married to guys shouldn’t expect their emotional “needs” to be “fulfilled” ever. Because women are gentle, emotional flowers and men are insensitive brutes. Right.

It’s fine. No, really, I’m fine. It’s fine.
