Woody Guthrie’s New Year’s Resolutions

Take a break from using your new Soda Stream (there is probably a limit to how much carbonation one bottle can handle) and take a look at folksinger Woody Guthrie’s list of New Year’s Resolutions from 1942.
Simple declarations like “Love Mama” and “Stay Glad” are earnest and charming. My personal favorite is number fifteen, “Learn People Better.” Guthrie’s neat writing and delightful illustrations make even the overly ambitious statements, like number twenty-seven, “Help Win War — Beat Fascism,” seem possible. (If you just believe!) Anthropologie could never dream up something this folksy and endearing.
