Xanga is Crowdfunding a Relaunch

GUYS, stop giving all your money to Zach Braff movies and Eisley’s tour and your friend’s all-spoon Spoon tribute band — we have a bigger emergency on our hands. Xanga, the Internet vessel into which you poured all your pre-hormonal post-Myspace ennui and misgivings, is teetering on the brink of extinction and you can help!!
Talkback Dear Diary 2.0 Xanga hasn’t being doing well since the advent of Tumblr, Twitter, and ThoughtCatalog. (ThoughtCatalog is a web diary, right?) Unable to renew their expensive lease on the networking facility that hosts their servers, the Xanga team has announced a crowdfunding campaign to relaunch the site as “a new blogging community, powered by WordPress.”
According to John@Xanga (oh, you know, John! He’s at Xanga…?), Nü-Xanga would provide subscription-based blog hosting and an ad-free experience. “We’d get the community a LOT more involved in running the site – especially when it came to fighting spam and trolls, the bane of any community site,” said John@Xanga. “It would be a blogging community by the people, for the people and of the people.” But that’s only if the site is able to raise $60,000 by July 15th. If Xanga is unable to raise the necessary funds, the site will be forced to shut down. Knowing full well that their fundraising campaign may fail, John@Xanga and the rest of the Xanga team@Xanga have made archival tools available to all users so that precious, precious blog histories of “reALLy RaNdom qUesti0nnaires” and typed out Bright Eyes lyrics can be saved.
